. After our meeting, Chris took to the students to the airport. Lydia and I stayed in London for two more days exploring more sites. We walked around Big Ben, went to 10 Downing Street, attended an afternoon concert at St. Sepulchre Without Newgate, walked to Trafalgar Square, and ended the day with a fantastic play.
On our last day, we walked to Kensington Gardens to see the Prince Albert Monument. It is hard to describe. Just look at it. It was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her beloved husband, Prince Albert who died of typhoid in 1861. We spent the afternoon at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and stood in both the Eastern and Western hemispheres. We stopped at the Greenwich Market on the way home and saw another play that night.
We spent two nights in London on our own and saw two plays. The Book Of Mormon was a hilarious play. I highly recommend it. The second night, we watched Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which was about thieves on the French Riviera. It sounded interesting because we would be traveling to Nice on the Riviera the next day. It was at the Savoy Theatre and when we arrived, we found that our tickets were purchased online for a random date in March. The theatre manager kindly gave us third row tickets for an additional 50 pounds, for which I was extremely grateful. Although the play was not my favorite, the setting and the kindness made it a good night.
